Are you tired of Graffiti taking over your Neighborhood?

Become a G.A.P Volunteer!

The City of Omaha has made the fight against graffiti a top priority and has made great strides to keep our city’s appearance something to be proud of. The City’s Graffiti Abatement Team (GAT) works hard on a daily basis but graffiti is not a battle that can be won without help! This is where you come in!

The City of Omaha and the Graffiti Action Partners(GAP) is taking steps this year to organize a three-part approach to engaging neighborhoods. The City first is recruiting volunteer groups that will do graffiti sweeps on weekend events, and secondly, the GAP is mobilizing volunteers that will work in their immediate neighborhoods daily and weekly. The third is the City of Omaha and GAP would help raise funding for mural projects done by local area youth artists. For 2014, the GAP strives to:

  1. Recruit volunteers
  2. Fund graffiti removal kits
  3. Raise Funds to support mural projects by local youth artists. Click here for more information on the Mural Projects.

Residents can take back their neighborhoods by helping to clean graffiti. We encourage you to do as little or as much as you want. Any effort to remove graffiti makes a HUGE difference! Be persistent! Repeated removal will likely be needed, as vandal may try again. However, studies show that the sooner graffiti is removed, the less likely it will be reported in the same place. If you consistently remove graffiti with-in 24-48 hours, vandals may realize graffiti is no longer tolerated in the area and will move on.

If you are a resident or a group that can dedicate a few hours a week or weekend to the dedication of the eradication of graffiti, we need you!!! You can dedicate your time in your own neighborhood or in all areas of our city. We will provide basic training to all volunteers on the use of the graffiti removal kits and foster program participation. So, if you enjoy working with people, don’t mind getting a little dirty, and want to make a difference in your community and to become a GAP Partner by making a donation to help support the volunteer effort and area mural projects.
